Halloween is a great time to pop in your favorite horror movie, turn off all the lights and sit back and watch the popcorn fly!
Whether your favortie scary movies are from the 30's featuring Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman, or maybe you prefer the more modern movie monsters like Jason, Freddy and Michael Myers, Halloween is the best time of year to bust out those old movies and give them another look.
Universal Monsters from the 20's 30's and 40's
Scary movies had their start back in the early 20's when Universal Studios released The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) and The Phantom of the Opera (1925). Universal kicked it the horror movie monster genre into the next level when they released Dracual and Frankenstein both in 1931. This ushered in a whole new era in movie monster popularity.
The late 30's and 40's continued the trend with Dracula and Frankenstein sequels, along with the release of new movie monsters The Wolf Man and The Mummy.
Modern era horror films
With the release of the original "Halloween" back in 1978 a whole new era of movie monsters were ushered in. With Jason from the Friday the 13th series, Michael Myers from Halloween and Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, horror movies reached a whole new level of popularity that still goes strong today with various remakes of these original titles.
